Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What do I need to sign up?

An email address. No card, no sales call, no domain verification to look around. You can run your first analysis on any public site immediately.

Do I have to connect Search Console?

No, but it changes what the product can do. Without it, we work from publicly observable signals, which is enough for competitor analysis, technical audits, keyword research and AI visibility. With it connected, we can use your exact clicks, impressions and positions, which unlocks the opportunity finder and lets us verify whether work actually moved anything. You can connect it later, or never.

How long does the first analysis take?

Depends on the module. An on-page check or keyword study is typically a couple of minutes. A full site crawl scales with the size of your site and the page limit on your plan. Runs happen in the background — you can leave the page and come back.

Can I use it for a site I don't own?

Yes, for anything measurable from public data — competitor analysis, rank tracking, technical audits, AI visibility. Connecting first-party performance data requires you to have access to that property, because Google authorises it, not us.

Data and accuracy

Where does your data come from?

Four places: your own connected accounts (exact, first-party), multiple independent open search sources fused into one consensus ranking, open web-crawl data for link authority, and your workspace's own accumulated history. We don't resell a third-party data vendor, which is a large part of why the price is what it is. Full detail here.

Why don't you show absolute monthly search volume?

Because that number isn't available from open sources, and we won't invent a precise-looking figure to fill the column. We show relative demand and estimated ranges instead, clearly labelled. If a client contract requires a specific vendor's volume figure, you'll need that vendor — we'd rather say so than pretend.

How accurate is your rank tracking?

We query several independent sources and fuse them into a consensus position rather than trusting any single one, which removes most of the noise that makes free rank data unreliable. Where you've connected Search Console, your real average position is used as ground truth instead of an estimate. At very high query volumes, a dedicated paid rank API will still be more exhaustive — we tell you the confidence rather than hiding it.

Are your backlink numbers comparable to the big tools?

No, and you should expect them to be lower. We build from open web-graph data and then verify links by actually fetching the linking page, so what we report exists today. A dedicated backlink vendor's index is more complete and fresher. Ours is real, verified, and honest about its coverage.

How do I know which numbers are measured and which are modelled?

The product labels them. Modelled figures — traffic estimates, difficulty scores, relative authority — carry a marker on the number itself, and the evidence explorer lets you trace any claim back to the run and method that produced it.

Do you use AI to generate the data?

Never for measurable facts. Rankings, link counts, crawl results and demand signals are crawled or computed — a language model is not asked to guess them. AI is used in exactly two places: probing assistants to measure AI-answer visibility (which is the measurement itself), and drafting content when you explicitly ask for a draft.

Plans and billing

What counts as a report?

One completed run of a module — a site audit, a keyword study, an AI visibility sweep, a competitive analysis. Viewing, filtering, sorting and exporting results you've already generated is unlimited and free.

What happens when I hit my monthly limit?

New runs pause until the month resets or you upgrade. Nothing is deleted, nothing is locked — all your existing data and reports stay fully accessible.

Are seats really unlimited?

Yes, on every plan including Free. We meter work performed, not people invited. Charging you to add a colleague or give a client read access is a billing tactic, not a cost we incur.

Can I downgrade without losing my history?

Yes. Downgrading lowers your ongoing allowance; it doesn't delete past work. Your reports and time-series history remain in the workspace.

Teams and reporting

Can I manage multiple websites in one workspace?

No. Every plan covers one website, and the tiers differ by how deeply we work on it rather than by how many sites you can add. If you look after several sites, each one needs its own plan today.

Can I give reports my own branding?

Not yet. Reports export as PDF and HTML carrying ours, and every claim in them links back to the evidence that produced it, which tends to shorten the "where did this number come from" conversation.

Can clients log in themselves?

Yes, and it costs nothing, because seats are unlimited on every plan.

Privacy and security

What do you do with my Search Console data?

We use it to power your workspace — opportunity detection, verification, and your own click-through model. It is not sold, not shared with other customers, and not used to build a product for anyone else. You can disconnect at any time, from inside SERPCompass or from your Google account. Details here.

Can other customers see my data?

No. Every workspace is isolated, and queries are scoped to your organisation. Aggregate models that improve over time are trained per workspace, on your own data.

How do I delete my account and data?

Ask us and we'll delete the workspace and its stored data. We'll confirm when it's done rather than leaving you wondering.
